Mumbai, October 30:
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced late tonight that the state government will implement a loan waiver for farmers by June 30, 2026.

“A committee has been constituted to make recommendations regarding the loan waiver. The committee will submit its report by April 2026. Based on those recommendations, the process will be completed within three months — that is, by June 30, 2026,” said Chief Minister Fadnavis.

A meeting regarding the proposed farm loan waiver was held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, with representatives of the agitating farmers’ delegation in attendance.

Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Cooperation Minister Jaikumar Rawal, Ministers of State Adv. Ashish Jaiswal and Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, and other senior officials were present.

The farmers’ delegation included former Minister Omprakash (Bacchu) Kadu, MP Raju Shetti, former Minister Mahadev Jankar, Vamanrao Chatap, Ravikant Tupkar, Rajan Kshirsagar, Girish Dabhadkar, and Ajit Navale, among others.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said,

“Farmers affected by natural calamities urgently need financial assistance. Without it, they will not be able to carry out the rabi (winter) sowing. Therefore, priority is being given to disbursement under the ₹32,000 crore relief package. Out of this, ₹8,000 crore has already been credited to farmers’ accounts. By the end of this week, ₹18,500 crore will be disbursed, and within fifteen days, 90% of the farmers will receive assistance directly in their bank accounts.”

He further added,

“Loan waiver was part of our election manifesto. However, this is an immediate measure, while long-term solutions are also being worked out. Since loan recoveries usually take place by June, we have set that as the timeline. Our discussions with the farmers’ representatives have been positive, and all leaders have expressed agreement with this approach. A meeting on other related issues will be held next week.”

Chief Minister Fadnavis concluded by reiterating that the committee will submit its recommendations by April 2026, and loan waiver will be implemented by June 30, 2026. Meanwhile, priority will be given to the ₹32,000 crore relief package to ensure farmers can proceed with rabi sowing without delay.
