Governor Koshyari appeals to Corporates to support Palliative Care providers

            Mumbai, 9 : Stating that there is an urgent need to provide palliative care to the large number terminally ill elderly people in our society, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called upon philanthropists and Corporates to extend a generous support to palliative care providers.

            The Governor was speaking at the commemoration of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, organised by the ‘Sukoon Nilaya Palliative Care Centre’ and the ‘Mumbai Palliative Care Network’ under the auspices of the King George V Memorial Trust in Mumbai.  The Governor announced a donation of Rs.25 lakhs to the Trust on this occasion.

            Dr L J de Souza, Founder of ‘Shanti Avedna’ which provides Palliative Care to terminally ill Cancer patients and Dr Mary Ann Muckaden, Radiation Oncologist at Tata Memorial Hospital were felicitated for their pioneering work in Palliative Care.

            Dr Eric Borjes, Chairman of King George V Memorial Trust – Anand Niketan, members of the Trust, differently abled adults, caregivers and well wishers were present. The Special adults presented a group dance and a skit on the occasion.
