Lalit Liladhar Patil is a well known painter from Mumbai His exhibition, titled Landscape of Identities, at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai,a visual artist who has been residing in Mumbai, India for about30 years now. Mumbai City is a complex place – crowded with its buildings, slums and people. Slums have this unexpected structure wherein they seem to be like these huge mountain of houses with light passing through darkness forming shapes with the juxtaposition of huge buildings in background. It’s not only physical structures that are complex but human emotions as well. This structure of complexity and abstraction is what his identity is, they are landscape for him and he paint those emotions in different forms. He said ,My earlier work mark my rigorous engagement with the process of making drawing, painting, installation and fine relief sculptures. Now I am presenting a conceptual work titled “Landscape of Identities”. It depicts these emotions, their individual identities and the complex structures together making a landscape and therefore the title. Every piece of art has its own definition, a tale, an identity and I believe they strongly define me, people, us.
